‘Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.’
-Wayne Dyer
Talking therapy doesn't have to mean being sat in the same room, face to face with your therapist.
For some people, travelling may be prohibitive for a variety of reasons. For others, sitting face to face may feel anxiety-inducing, feeling 'under the spotlight'. This should never feel the case and recognising everyone is different, the way in which your therapy is provided for you should reflect this and, therefore, I offer a variety of options.
I offer face to face therapy from my consultation room based in Godalming. This offers you a private and confidential space in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
Online and Telephone Therapy tends to offer more flexibility to clients as you can access your sessions from anywhere and it does not impose physical barriers or boundaries to accessing therapy. This can be particularly useful if mobility and/or travel is an issue or, perhaps, you are self-isolating due to Covid19. Short or long term therapy can be offered working in this way. You will need access to a device, the internet and a quiet and confidential space for yourself so you are able to speak openly and freely.
Walk and Talk Therapy removes the confines of the therapy room which some find freeing and more conducive to the therapeutic process. Being outside offers benefits in itself; being close to nature, breathing in the fresh air and gentle exercise all of which promotes the release of ‘endorphins’, a naturally occurring hormone designed to alleviate feelings of depression and reduce stress and anxiety. For those who find direct eye contact difficult, Walk and Talk therapy offers a less formal setting; talking whilst walking side by side.
Whatever approach to therapy we choose for you, short and long-term therapy can be offered.
Short-term therapy tends to work with a specific goal in mind, usually drawing on a more CBT type approach. You can expect a more structured and focussed form of therapy often involving completing 'homework' between sessions.
Long-term therapy tends to work at a deeper level, where perhaps a long-term issue or issues are what you are struggling with. We may reach into the past to understand how it is directing your present. It allows time to develop a strong working alliance where behaviour patterns can be observed and brought into your conscious awareness allowing understanding, healing, and growth to take place.
Typically, therapy is the most effective when attended at regular intervals. This often tends to be weekly, but can be fortnightly or at another pace, to suit you as an individual.
Whatever approach is right for you, please be assured the main aim of any therapy I provide is to ensure it is the most effective therapy for you and remains beneficial for you. To this end, I make a point of regularly reviewing our sessions together.
